Vinnie Ream

Hello I'm Vinnie Ream and I am famous for making a statue of Abraham Lincoln. I was born in 1847. When I was in Kansas I sang and played the guitar for the soldiers. I moved a lot because my father was a land surveyor. I rejoined my parents Robert and Lavinia Ream in Fort Smith. I later moved to Washington DC. I began working at a post office for fifty dollars a month. I began sculpting for Clark Mills as an apprentice. I worked hard and soon the word of my talent spread. I sculpted congressmen. I asked the congressmen to ask permission if I could sculpt Abraham Lincoln. I also sculpted Admiral David Farragut and feminist Elizabeth C. Stanton. I married Richard Hoxie in 1878 and I had my first child. Then I sculpted Edwin B Hay. I loved to play the harp. My last sculpture was Sequoyah. I died in 1914 due to uremic poisoning. Whenever you go to Washington DC, remember me the youngest and first woman to revive a federal commission.
