John Blind Boone

Hello my name is John “Blind” Boone and I am famous for making music as a African American. My mom is Rachel Boone Hendricks and my dad is a bugler from the army. Around the age of six months I had brain fever and that's how I got blind. Back in Warrensburg, I earned money by playing the piano in foster school and a school for white people. Later I went to a special school for the blind. Several Warrensburg residents helped my mom send me to a school for blind people in St. Louis. I met John Lange, Jr. in 1879. Lange wrote to my mom to ask if he could take over my career. Lange promised to handle my health and care. In 1880 Thomas “Blind Tom” Wiggins came to play a concert in Columbia and told me if I could repeat his song and I repeated it perfectly. I retired in June 1927 after completing 47 touring seasons. I suffered a heart attack and died at the age of 63. I became one of the first black artists recorded by the QRS piano roll company in 1912. I hope you will be a good piano player like me.
