Curtis Marbut

Hello, I am Curtis F. Marbut. I am a famous soil scientist. I was born to Nathaniel and Jane Marbut. I grew up on a farm near Verona and had a love for learning. I went to the University of Missouri and I graduated with a bachelor's degree in geology. After graduation I married Florence L. Martin and we had five children. Some years after that I enrolled at Harvard University and completed my masters degree in geology. I was appointed to the Missouri State Geological Survey as a field geologist and I became an instructor for mineralogy and geology at the University of Missouri. In 1909 my life suddenly changed when my wife died of double pneumonia. Then I joined the U.S. Bureau of Soils as a soil scientist. Little did I know though that I would spend the rest of my life doing field work, delivering and conducting guest lectures, serving on committees and attending conferences all over the world. I died of pneumonia while in China studying their soil. The last thing I want you to remember about me is that I lived near McDowell. So whenever you go past there think of Curtis F. Marbut.
